Abstract
The author explores the level of knowledge in the contemporary historiography of the divided government impact on formulating American foreign and defensive policy. Special attention is focused on the researchers’ consideration of A. Wildavsky “the two presidencies” thesis validity in the situation of the divided parties control of the branches of government as well as factors, determining congressional-presidential relations in foreign policy in the post-war period and the possibility of the corresponding legislative gridlock.
