Abstract

The article explores the mutual perception of Russia and Mongolia, coincidences and differences in the ideas of the Russians and the Mongols about the neighboring country, relations between our states, taking into account peculiarities of civilizational development. In order to optimize bilateral Russian-Mongolian relations at present, it is necessary to assess the scope and direction of changes in mutual perception in the post-socialist era. The comparison is carried out on the basis of online surveys conducted in Russia (N=462) and Mongolia (N=400). In compiling the questionnaire, the authors focused on the following aspects of perception: assessment of Russian-Mongolian relations; selection of priority areas and cooperation projects; associations with Russia and Mongolia; features of the national character of the Russians and the Mongols, great names of history of the people-neighbor, factors of rapprochement between Russia and Mongolia at the present stage. The results of the study clearly demonstrate high prestige of Russia and all Russian in Mongolia, the interest of Russians for their close neighbor, connected with our history, the culture of our peoples, and the hopes for strengthening cooperation among the populations of two countries.
