Abstract
The paper examines the socio-economic and political situation in northern Sudan after the separation of South Sudan. It argues that the country’s political context is characterized by instability, the continuation of armed conflicts on the periphery and complex relationship with the new southern neighbor. At the same time, the country is experiencing a severe economic crisis, which is mainly a result of the loss of oil revenue after the country’s split.
