Автор исследует историю возникновения и особенности развития горнорудных компаний ЮАР, а также структуру собственности горнорудной промышленности до и после прихода к власти в 1994 г. демократически избранного правительства.Рассматриваются изменения в горнорудной отрасли после отказа компаний от непрофильных активов, смены места регистрации головных офисов и первичного размещения акций на Лондонской фондовой бирже. Чьи интересы превалируют в деятельности компаний: национальные или глобальные? Кто является главным выгодоприобретателем: народ Южной Африки или ТНК?
