Abstract

For various reasons, archaeological sites of the Xianbei period in Altai have not been investigated for long time. The bulk of the material for this period was obtained in the 1980s and early 1990s during a massive excavation of the identified burial complexes. Over the past two decades, the scope of information on the funeral rite and the material world of the population of Altai in the 2nd–4th centuries increased slightly. This made it possible to solve problems of cultural and chronological nature based on a typological analysis of various categories of reference goods. The article presents in detail weaponry, equipment of human and riding horse, as well as working and everyday tools, and apparel ornaments. The authors established their analogies and determined dating. The study gives characteristic of the identified Bely Bom stage of the Bulan-Koba archaeological culture, shows prospects for its further fractional chronology and presents the historical context.
