Abstract

The article looks at the changing composition of Canada’s international trade partners since the start of the 21st century and specifically after the global economic crisis of 2008-2009. The article contains a brief overview of the federal foreign trade strategy aimed at stimulating exports growth, expanding export markets in Europe and Asia, finding new sources of imports. The author analyses the initial outcomes of the implementation of the comprehensive economic and trade agreements between Canada and the European Union (CETA), as well as Canada and 10 countries of the Asia-Pacific region (CPTTP). It is shown that during the first two years since their partial ratification Canada’s trade exchanges with the EU “economic leaders”, notably, Germany, as well as some Asian countries have increased quite substantially. At the same time, the escalation of conflicts between the USA and China has negatively influenced the trade between Canada and China.
