Abstract

This article focuses on the global economic and political crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing rise in anti-Chinese sentiment in the political establishment of Western countries. Immediately after the detection of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the Chinese leadership took restrictive and quarantine measures unprecedented in world history to stop the spread of the disease, which was approved by many countries and international organizations, including WHO. In addition, China is actively sharing its experience in fighting infection, providing humanitarian assistance, and being the world leader in the production of face masks. The harsh measures taken in China have drawn criticism from Western countries for being authoritarian. However, the further spread of coronavirus in the world led to the opposite situation - when China began to lift quarantine measures, and the epidemic began to decline, in the rest of the world it was only gaining momentum, which forced many countries to apply measures similar to those in China, but with less efficiency. This led to serious consequences in the form of a global economic and political crisis. In these conditions, the politicians of Western countries, led by the United States, come out with sharp and unfounded criticism of China, blaming it for the outbreak of the pandemic. According to the author, it is unacceptable to make such statements without a thorough investigation of the causes of the coronavirus. The current crisis situation in the world once again underlines the validity of the concept of the common destiny of mankind put forward by the Chinese leadership.
