The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the real prospects for the evolution of trans-atlantic trade and economic relations under the democratic administration of President Joe Biden. The contradictions and coincidences of positions in the approaches of official Washington and the EU to the problems of foreign economic cooperation of the parties in the short and medium term are considered. The conclusion is substantiated that, despite verbal statements in support of the need to restore interaction between the United States and the European Union, on the fundamental issues of such a course, the democratic administration continues to generally adhere to the protectionist course of the previous Republican administration of D. Trump. Official Brussels, for its part, actively advocating a large-scale reset of cooperation with the United States, seeks to properly defend its own economic interests and very soberly approaches the assessment of what is possible in the resumption of interaction with Washington, both in the political and trade and economic spheres. Both sides proceed from the fact that due to objective reasons of the changed geopolitical situation in the world, internal processes in the United States and the EU countries, a return to the nature, intensity and level of transatlantic interaction, which took place in fact from the end of World War II until the arrival of power in the United States of President D. Trump will no longer exist under any, even the most favorable scenario for the evolution of relations between the United States and the EU under the presidency of Joe Biden.

Nevertheless, the EU is quite persistent in coming out with a number of initiatives (development and adoption of the so-called new transatlantic agenda, proposing the establishment of a new Transatlantic Council on Trade and Technology) aimed at removing the existing significant irritants in the trade and economic cooperation of the parties (protective customs duties, a dispute over government subsidies for the national aircraft industry, disagreements over the WTO reform and approaches to economic cooperation with China and Iran), and the development of a long-term strategy for transatlantic partnership.
