Abstract
The author explores the medieval origins of the basic parameters of the modern Westernstyle state as sovereignty, the legal regime, the legislative function of power, emergence of governing bodies and social group of bureaucracy, professionalization and rationalization of ruling methods, the concept of “service of the King” as a service for the common good, the ideologeme “people as a source of power”.
