Abstract
The idea of a socio-historical and political subject of liberation, Central to Marxism, is rejected by postmodernist theorists. The authors study the debate between Marxist and postmodern theories, speculating on whether and how to study the subject of political liberation. The problems caused by processes around the world in the context of the global economic crisis are identified. A typology of responses of Marxist thinkers to the postmodern challenge is presented. The limitations of each approach to identifying the subject of liberation are discussed.
