Abstract
The principles, experience, and promising opportunities for analyzing large amounts of data using Data Mining methods are considered. The main provisions are illustrated by examples of empirical research (databases of the state employment service Of the Altai territory administration for labor and employment, more than 200 variables, more than 500,000 records). Data preparation for analysis, clustering using self-organizing feature maps, and building decision trees are described. The criteria for evaluating the quality of Data Mining application and the principles of interpreting the results are justified. It is shown that the use of Data Mining in sociology is promising, methodologically justified and practically feasible.
