Abstract
The article deals with the phenomenon of religiosity and the evolution of its conceptualization in Russian and Western sociology of religion. The author focuses on the need to understand the inseparable connection between the categories of "religiosity” as an individual or group property and" religion” as a system of beliefs and practices in order to fully interpret and typologize the concept religiosity. The history of the conceptualization of religiosity in the twentieth century indicates the need to form an integral approach to the study of this phenomenon due to its special dual nature – individual and group, aimed at understanding the transcendent. At the same time, the broader social context in a differentiated society acts as a factor that influences the nature of religiosity, both for an individual and for a religious group.
