Abstract
In October 1953, students and young scholars of the physics faculty at Moscow State University selected their representatives to the departments Komsomol Conference. Acting within the framework of the offi cially justifi ed but in practice rather risky discourse, the Komsomol members raised their voices with impunity against the pedagogical politics of the departments administration, complaining, above all, about the removal of the countrys leading physicists from teaching. The present essay examines the events surrounding the conference and observes that the post-Stalin and post-Beria atmosphere of liberalization, enthusiasm, and patriotism of the young physicists contributed to the successful resolution of their public protest.
