Abstract
This article is devoted to the analysis of the role of the army and the military in the political system during Muammar Gaddafi’s governing in Libya from 1969 to 2011. The author explores the transformation of the army and militaries’ position in political power structure of the Libyan Arab Republic and the Libyan Jamahiriya, the relationship between the army leaders, the country’s political elite and authoritarian leader. The article explains modes operandi of regular armed forces in the political process in the moments of the political crises at various stages of development of the modern Libyan state.
