Abstract
The article gives a brief overview of demographic trends in Japan after World War II, and also provides forecasts of age structure changes in Japanese society until the middle of the XXI century and of the subsequent working age population number reduction in the country. Also some estimations of the possible positive economic impact of overcoming gender inequality in Japan are cited in the article.
