Abstract
Based on the data of sociological research conducted in Yekaterinburg in 2006 - 2007, the author shows the ideas of teachers and parents about the importance of the practical aspect of school education, in particular, the development of social competence of students, reveals contradictions and difficulties in achieving this goal.
